Born and raised in Fall River, Greg was a graduate of the culinary program at Diman Regional and Johnson & Wales University. He went on to build his culinary resume and worked at Mohegan Sun, various corporate dining facilities and at The Courses at Andrew’s Air Force base, MD. His passion was cooking and his love was teaching. He accomplished both at his ideal job as a Rounds Instructor at NECI, New England Culinary Institute, Montpelier, VT. Unfortunately, in 2007, Greg had to leave that position due to his first battle with cancer. Throughout all his chemotherapy and diagnosis, he kept a positive attitude and continued to work in his field when he could.
In his earlier years, Greg attained his Eagle Scout at Notre Dame Parish. His Eagle project was feeding the homeless. That project led to the establishment of the Saturday Kitchen, which continues to this day.
Greg was a car enthusiast. He loved to drive cars and collect model cars. He also enjoyed the woods, camping and servicing his community with the local Mason’s Massasoit-Narragansett Lodge.
Besides his devoted wife and parents, he is survived by his aunts and uncle, Andrew and Eileen Primo of Somerset and Joan Mattos of Montgomery, AL; cousins, Andrea and Barry Shea of Somerset, Stephanie and Jeff Simons of Dighton and Joshua Mattos of Birmingham, AL. Greg was predeceased by his uncle, Charles Mattos.
