He was the husband of Anne (Wallworth) Mello, to whom he had been married for 45 years.
He was born on November 27, 1954, in Fall River, he was the son of the late Manuel and Idalina Mello.
Joseph worked as a mixer operator at Gold Medal Bakery prior to his retirement. Joseph was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. where he served his country proudly during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the Fall River Elks Lodge #118; Joseph was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and he loved camping, playing horseshoes and spending time with family and friends.
Besides his wife, Joseph is survived by four children, Monica Mello Harris of Oregon, April Mello Ramirez-Carballo of Denver, Colorado, Tracy Mello (Keith Cathcart) of Fall River and Thomas Mello of New Bedford; one sister Debra Mello of Tennessee, 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother to the late Brenda Franklin and Donna Beland.
His visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River, followed by a service in the funeral home at 7:00PM. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be private.
