Kendrick Maxwell Snyder, age 71, of Westport Harbor, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Anne (Brayton) Snyder to who he has been married for the past 38 years.
Born in Columbus, OH, a son of the late Philip D. and Patricia (Maxwell) Snyder and step-son of the late Dorothy Snyder, he spent his youth in Ohio and lived in Colorado prior to moving to Westport in the early 1970’s.
He was a building contractor and carpenter; the owner of Kendrick Snyder Builder Inc. in Westport, MA. Son of an architect, he had an incredibly skillful attention to design and detail. He was a great mentor to many carpenters, and his “alumni,” the many local youth he employed on summer break. He was a former board member of the Acoaxet Club, the Fall River YMCA and Friends Academy. Kendrick held his private pilot’s license and was a proud owner of a Cessna 182. He was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy, and he attended the University of Colorado.
An outdoor enthusiast, he enjoyed boating, water skiing, golf, flying and his "garden.". A born entertainer there was never a microphone he didn't gravitate to. You could find him cruising around town in his restored 1964 Olsmobile convertible, top down, dog by his side.
He was the father of the late Philip Danforth Snyder and is survived by two daughters, Catherine Potempa and her husband Patrick Matthew of Nashville, TN, Lucille Snyder of Westport; three grandchildren, Philip, Patrick and Penn; three sisters, Melinda Blake and her husband Benson of IL, Marcia Locke of CA and Nancy Sims of OH; one brother Michael Locke of OH.
Due to current restrictions on public gatherings, his funeral and burial will be private. Contributions in his honor may be made to Angel Flights NE Lawrence Municipal Airport, 492 Sutton Street, North Andover MA 01845 or to Forever Paws, 300 Lynwood St., Fall River, MA 02721.
