Mary Jo Costa Greene

Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Joseph E. and Pauline (Kowalczyk) Costa, she was a lifelong resident of Fall River, a graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Class of 1949 and a graduate of the former Thibodeau Business School.

Before retirement, Mrs. Greene was receptionist and certified housing manager for the Fall River Housing Authority, the Executive Director of the Somerset Housing Authority, an employee of the City of Fall River and the Bristol County Registry of Deeds. An avid sports fan, she especially loved football and in her youth was an exceptional softball player.

Mrs. Greene enjoyed golf and sailing and was a former member of the Fall River Country Club, Newport Yacht Club, and the Somerset Garden Club. She also enjoyed arts, crafts and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter Carol A. Valcourt and her husband Ronald A. of Somerset, three sons Robert W. Greene, Jr. and his wife Simone of Margate, FL, John S. Greene and his wife Cheryl of Sandwich, MA and Kevin M. Greene of Fall River; five brothers: Joseph, James, Leon, Richard and William Costa, seven grandchildren Robert W. Greene III, Timothy A. Greene, Lauren A. Valcourt, Joel Greene, Ryan J. Greene, Kevin M. Greene and Maxwell W. Greene and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at 8AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter St. followed by a funeral mass at 9AM in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St. Fall River.
