Robert M. Hargraves, age 80 of Fall River, passed away at home on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Mary Lib (McDonald) Hargraves to whom he had been married for 58 years.
Born in Fall River, the only child of the late Charles T. and Marion C. (McDonald) Hargraves, he was a 1959 graduate of Durfee High School. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in 1963 from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester where he played football and baseball and spent two years as a Graduate Assistant Coach at Brown University. Robert Hargraves was a Supervisory Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the Organized Crime Division for 30 years. He served most of those years in the Providence office and the Boston office from which he retired. He later went on to work for the Foxwoods Resort & Casino, where he held the positions of Senior Special Investigator and Deputy Inspector General for Investigations for over a 10-year span.
Bob was a longtime member of the Fall River Country Club, the Fall River Lodge of Elks, the Durfee Hilltopper Athletic Foundation, the Durfee Athletic Association, and was the Chairman of the Durfee High School Athletic Hall of Fame for 20 years. He was a proud member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and spent several years as a mentor for the Holy Cross Football student-athletes.
In addition to his loving wife of 58 years, he is survived by his four children Robert M. Hargraves Jr. and his wife Holly of Mattapoisett, Nancy Jane Hargraves of Fall River, Jennifer Elias and her husband Karl of Fairfield, CT., and Michael M. Hargraves and his wife Lisa of Fall River; nine grandchildren George Elias, Colin, Julia, and Madeline Hargraves, Brady Hargraves, Jack and Beatrice Ashley, Devon Sutton, Valentina Fontanez, and many, many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Monday, October 3, 2022, at 11 AM in St. Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Ave., Somerset. His burial will be private. Visiting hours will be Sunday, October 2nd from 4 to 8 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Fall River, 803 Bedford Street, Fall River, MA 02723.
