

Born in Providence, RI on May 8, 1930, the son of the late Walter E. and Gladys (Hobson) Moore, he was the brother of the late Walter Jr. He moved to Fall River in 1938 and resided in Fall River for most of his life.
After graduating from B.M.C. Durfee High School in 1948, he graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1952. After graduation he was employed by the Bethlehem Steel Corp. in Baltimore MD, where he specialized in automatic control systems for steel plant operations.
After a few years, he accepted a position at the predecessor organization of the current Naval Undersea Systems Center in Newport RI, where he held many positions including Deputy Technical Director of the 3600-person organization over his 40-year career. This organization became the Navy's principal Center for submarine warfare systems. During this time, he received a master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado and received many significant awards during his career including the Superior Achievement Award, the 2nd highest award given to civilian employees. Following retirement, he applied his expertise as a consultant for 3 years. He was considered one of the Navy's outstanding engineers in the test and evaluation of submarine weapon systems.
During his working years he was dedicated to his work and to his family, the two most important parts of his life. He had many interests and served on the Board of Directors of the UMASS Library Associates and the former South Coast Opera Club. He was a member of the MIT Club of Southeastern New England. He found great interest in art and loved Viennese Music. He and his wife Ann traveled to Vienna to gain a fuller knowledge of this form of music.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He is survived by two sons, Robert Moore Jr and his wife Paula of Southborough, MA and Thomas Moore of Lincoln, RI; four grandchildren, Caroline and her husband Andrew Letai, Gillian, Hunter, and Emma.
His Funeral Services will be private.
