Sapon Prom, age 74, formerly of Fall River, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2020 at North Shore Medical Center. He was the husband of Savrath (Tieng) Prom to whom he has been married for the past 45 years.
He was born in Kampong Chhnang, Cambodia, son of the late Prom Sy and Pov Yeap. He was educated in Cambodia where he received his Master’s degree in Philosophy and Literature. While living in Cambodia, he was a beloved Professor and taught Pali (an ancient Indian language and also the sacred language of Theravāda Buddhism), English, French, Mathematics, and World and Religious Philosophy.
In 1982, Sapon came to the United States along with his wife and small children. He did interpretative work for area temples in addition to being a stay at home parent to his three children. Active in the Fall River Khmer Buddhist Temple, he was a very social man and enjoyed listening to traditional Cambodian music and tinkering with electronics.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Rathasen Prom and his wife Nhu Uyen Prom of Fletcher, NC; two daughters, Reasey Prom of Salisbury, MA, Sakthyda Prom of Marblehead, MA; one brother, Prom Sak and his wife Prom Kan (and their many children and grandchildren); two grandchildren, Aurora and Draco and two granddogs, Pebbles and Bam Bam. He was the brother of the late Yan, Yung, and Yun Prom.
Due to current restrictions on public gatherings, his Funeral services will be private.
