Anne Pollard Withers

Anne Pollard Withers, 84, of Alexandria, VA, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024. She was born in Kingsport, TN on November 6, 1939. Her parents were Raymond Dean Pollard and Florence Annette Varnado. After graduating from Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport, TN, then Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA, she began her career with IBM in Atlanta, GA, where she met her beloved husband, Robert Walter Withers (Bob) and continued her career in Information Technology for many years. She and Bob moved every few years, due to Bob’s IBM promotions, followed by his starting the North American subsidiary of an Italian company. A favorite IBM move was to Boeblingen, Germany for 5 years, and travel was always a favorite pastime. They loved their 10-year retirement together in Pawleys Island, SC, as Bob passed away in 2013.

Anne moved to VA in 2018, to live close to her daughter, Sara Withers Franco, and family: husband Joseph James Franco, grandson Joshua and granddaughter Julia, of Falls Church, VA. Her son, Robert Walter Withers, Jr. passed away in November 2023. Anne entered the retirement home, Goodwin House Alexandria, in December 2019, which she enjoyed until death.

Other survivors include: brother Raymond Dean Pollard, Jr. and wife Gloria of North Carolina, sister Sara Pollard Siedenburg and husband Fred of California, sister-in-law Margaret Withers Allen and her daughters, Kathleen Allen Hamrick of North Carolina and Christine Allen Flanagan of New Jersey.

Anne, as she liked to say Anne-With-An-E like the royal Anne, was loving, fun, and organized. So organized, she wrote most of this obituary, besides this section. She lived life to the fullest and continued to smile, laugh, and dance until her final days.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Nov 16, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Goodwin House Alexandra, 4800 Fillmore Ave., in the Chapel. Anne will be buried in the Withers family plot in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.
