

He served in the United States Army for 24 years, retiring as the Deputy Commanding Officer of the 116th Military Intelligence Group. He served with distinction in World War II, Korea and Viet Nam. He was awarded the Legion of Merit and the Purple Heart for his service in Viet Nam. Upon retirement from the Army, Mr. Kyle worked as a Special Agent in the Inspector General’s Office for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.
Mr. Kyle was a gifted linguist who spoke Japanese and Russian. He had a passion for traveling extensively in Asia, Europe and the United States. He was an avid amateur radio collector and operator, and held a First Class Amateur Radio Operator’s License. He also had a lifelong love of astronomy and ancient history.
Mr. Kyle was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Lillian H. Kyle, who died in 2003, and his oldest son, Arthur M. Kyle, who died in 2007. Mr. Kyle is survived by his five children, Lillian K. O’Dell of Reisterstown, MD; Patricia K. Epps, of Richmond, VA; Joan Olivola of Wilmington, NC; Neil F. Kyle of Woodbridge, VA; and Robert J. Kyle of Dallas, TX; and five grandchildren, Stephanie Brokovich and Kelly Ryan, of Elkridge, Md., C.J O’Dell of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Devon Eulie, of Wilmington, NC; and Matt Olivola of Avondale, AZ.: and one great-granddaughter, Holly Ryan of Elkridge, MD.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Aplastic Anemia, 100 Park Ave, Ste. 108, Rockville, MD 20850 & MDS International Foundation or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
The family plans a private funeral.
