Betty Elizabeth Berkman

Betty E. Berkman, 97, of Charlottesville, VA, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2019. She is the daughter of the late Samuel and Rae Berkman. Betty is predeceased by her siblings Hymie, Albert, Faye, and Ida. She is survived by cousins and dear friends, the Pinkham family. Originally born in Detroit, Betty, also fondly known as “Peppy," moved to Washington, D.C. at the age of 10 and later attended Eastern High School. She worked for 32 years at U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) as a payroll supervisor prior to her retirement at age 55. After her retirement, she worked at her brother Al’s Crazy Horse Bar-B-Q Ranch Restaurant in Hyattsville for three years. In 2007, following the passing of her sisters, Betty moved to Charlottesville where she enjoyed spending time at home, tending to her flowers, reading novels, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. A graveside service for Betty will be held on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at 11 a.m. at King David Memorial Gardens. Friends and family are asked to meet at the National Funeral Home in National Memorial Park at 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042 where they will be directed to the service location. King David Memorial Gardens does not accept flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
