As with Barry Shine, Mrs. Spencer was like a second mother to me and Mike was like a brother. And she absolutely made the best iced tea ever! During the summer after our senior year at Falls Church High School Mike played professional baseball and I worked construction, but even though Mike was not around, I stopped by his house several times each week until I left for college, just to drink her iced tea, and she always had a pitcher ready for me. I now live in Atlanta and I don't get to the D.C. area very often, but almost every time I have come to D.C. over the last 20 years, I have found time to stop by and visit with Mrs. Spencer (almost always unannounced), and she would always make me a pitcher of her iced tea! While I haven't seen much of Mrs. Spencer over the years, I will miss her. Alice Ann (I can't call you just Alice), Cheryl and family, you have our deepest condolences and you are in my and Kim's thoughts and prayers.

There are no word that can be said that will take the pain  of loosing someone who is so much loved away. Betty was such a vital part of her family and such a gem to find as a friend. The only thoughts that comfort me are that she is no longer in that horrible pain when she walkes or any other pain , She can breath freely and she is at peace with Jesus.

I am so sorry to hear of Aunt Bett's passing. I have so many fond childhood memories of all get togethers we had as a family. I will keep all of you in my prayers that God will comfort you now and in the weeks to come.

It can be so hard to face the first year without your loved one, but the love of family and friends can carry you through.

Alice, Cheryl and family.  I first met your mom when her son Mike and my husband Michael coached football together many years ago.  I remember the good times we all had either at her house, or Larry's house.  My daughter grew up loving no one else sweetened ice tea like Betty's.
