Christian was born in Toulon, France to the late Claude and Alice Oudar and grew up in Barcelonnette in the French Alps where he developed a love for the outdoors, hiking, camping, and downhill skiing. He graduated from l'École d'électricité et de mécanique industrielle in Paris and moved to Luton, England to work as an electronic design engineer. He was known as Jacques Oudar to everyone in the world of intrinsic safety, becoming a founding member of Measurement Technology Limited (MTL) where he designed many of the company's safety products and later served on the Board of Directors for MTL Instruments Group plc.
He emigrated to Manassas, Virginia with his wife, Lynne, and daughters to establish and manage the MTL Group markets in the USA and Canada, as president of MTL Incorporated. He later formed his own company, Exloc Corporation, designing and selling intrinsically safe electronic equipment for the process control industry. After a fulfilling career, he and Lynne retired to Beaufort, South Carolina.
Christian traveled extensively with Lynne and his daughters over the years but especially in retirement including a 180 day voyage around the world. He loved everything electronic and would frequently tinker with circuit boards and other electrical components until late at night. His professional friendships changed and influenced the course of several lives. He valued and enjoyed these interactions throughout his career and beyond. He was a patient, kind and gentle man and will be remembered by everybody for his unique sense of humor which often took people by surprise.
Christian leaves his wife of 53 years, Lynne, his daughters and their husbands Geneviève and Rick, Dominique and Alex, and Natalie and Doug, his sister Monique, and his grandchildren Cecelia, Adeline, Rémy, Chase, Julien, Mathis and Lucie all of whom he loved and adored.
