He entered the Navy March 3, 1943 date of separation was February 12, 1946. He was in the Pacific Theater in WW2, he served proudly at Iwo Jima, Tarawa, and the Philippines.
He later began working for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroads in West Virginia, and later Potomac Yards in Alexandria, VA.
He married Ellen Betty Ann Lunceford of Warrenton, VA on April 17, 1948.
He was father of five children: Ronald Toward (deceased), Marlene Toward, Richard Toward (deceased), Stephen Toward, and Jerry Toward. He has four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren children.
