Constance was born in Tazewell, VA, daughter of James W. Edwards and Leona Lockhart Edwards on January 23, 1937. She married Amel L. Stevenson on November 28, 1953, in Tazewell, VA, and started her life journey.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and friend. She raised four children as a single young mother (only 37 years old) after the passing in 1974 of Amel, the love of her life.
She loved to make quilts for her sons, daughter and grandchildren. She loved to garden with roses as her favorite. She loved the great grandchildren’s birthday celebrations and back yard cook outs making memories with time spent with family. She especially enjoyed the yearly family reunions in Tazewell, VA. She was famous for her applesauce cakes that she sent to friends and family, no one could make them like she did. Being a care giver to others came natural to her, wheather it was driving them to appointments, taking care of them, and attending to their needs she was there.
We can not forget her straight forward attitude “I tell it like it is”. Her honest opinions always hit the mark. No matter who she was happy to give her opinions freely. She was a master at getting you to do what she thought was best for you and sprinkled it with a little “guilt, but everyone loved her for it. Her free spirit will be missed by everyone that knew her.
Constance is survived by her sons James J. Stevenson (Sharon), Kenneth L. Stevenson (Karen), William M. Stevenson (Marie), her daughter Melissa M. Lee (David), brother Willis Edwards (Barb). Grandchildren: Marc Stevenson, Jamie Stevenson, Thomas Stevenson, Amanda Munies, Zachary Lee, Angela Stevenson, Jacob Lee, Kassie Stevenson, 5 Great Grandchildren, and two on the way, arriving in May.
