Sorry to read of the loss of your mother and father last year.  I was a teenager when your parents lived in an aparmtent building off Duke Street in Alexandria before they - and we - moved to Annandale.   I never did much babysiting, but when your mother went into labor with (I'm pretty sure) her 4th child, your dad called in a hurry to get your mom to the hospital asking me to babysit.  I remember the house was a mess, and I decided I would clean it up so your dad and mom would come home to a clean house.  I quickly figured out why the house was such a mess. It was the 1st 3 children!  I worked my ass off caring for you guys and got absolutely nothing done!  Well, your dad was a very nice man and offered to help me get into a good college. I should have taken him up on his offer, but I was shy.  Your mom was a character - a compliment!   You must all be very proud.

So sad to learn that Dan has passed away.  I worked for him for many years. During that time I got to see many sides of man who was a tenacious journalist and editor. Dan could be gruff at times but I always told co-workers that he had a heart of gold.  He really did. I will miss him forever.
My most sincere simpathy goes to all of his family for their tremendous loss.

Dan was my  dear friend .   We first met in Shelbyville  Junior  High School and continued   our friendship through out his life.

 My thoughts are with Lousise,  his children and grandchildren.

   I loved him very much and I will miss him .

Ours was a friendship that spanned over sixty years. It encompassed  our marriages, the births of our children, mutual friends, shared ownership and loss of loved ones. The cherished  memories abound. Dan was a much loved friend. Now he rests in peace. I will miss him. Marcia
