She was a joy to be around, a life loving person with a good and generous heart.

First off my condolences to Roxanne, Mr. Herman, and the family. Mrs. Hermina and Mr. Herman were my neighbors while I lived at Mount Vernon Square Apartments. I love Mrs. Hermina very much. Special thanks to Roxanne for informing me of her Mother passing. Mrs. Hermina was always talking, always listening, always joking, and always telling me to Marry my girlfriend, lol. Every chance she got, she’d put me on the spot. I’d be like Mrs. Hermina don’t bring that up, and she’d give me a look, like boy I’m not playing with you. We actually got Married this past February, I know that she’s smiling about that. I’m grateful for everything that she instilled in me, most importantly family values. I loved visiting her and Mr. Herman, talking, joking, laughing, just having a good ole time. She’d share her stories, as well as Mr. Herman and I’d just listen, as well as pick up on their wisdom. Mrs. Hermina would visit me to. She’d knock on my door and walk right in, lol. She used to watch movies and tv shows with us. The funny thing is this, sometimes she’d be over and be falling asleep. Lol. I’d be like sweetheart, look at Mrs. Hermina she’s sleeping. I’d wake her up and she’d be like I’m not sleeping. I can tell that she really enjoyed our company. Well to Mrs. Hermina, thank you for being a light in my life. Thank you for being so loving, caring, thoughtful, and giving. I will cherish you/your life forever.

Ms. Hermina watched our daughter Ashley and kept her safe and happy for three years.   This allowed us to go to work and feel comfortable that our daughter was in a great place.  She smiled early in the morning and was still smiling when my husband picked our daughter up in the evening. My husband enjoyed the talks they would have.  When we picked Ashley up we could have taken her to church or a Presidential ball (smile).  She was always dressed, hair combed and smelling great. It takes a special person like Ms. Hermina to have patience and love for children. Ms. Hermina loved her family and she shared with us that she sent care packages to her sister.  She was a friendly and happy person  and had a love for God.  She is now safe in his arms.   She will be missed.   To the family always remember the good times and know that Ms. Hermina is in heaven smiling for God and watching over you.

Hermina was a vibrant, delightful and well-respected person.  Hermina was a typical Caribbean; she enjoyed socializing and attending parties, especially with relatives and friends.  Herman was more reserved; when he didn't attend a party, he would drop Hermina off and pick her up, sometimes at 3 in the morning.😀
Hermina baby-sat our eldest son, Troy, when we all lived in the Chastleton Apts on 16th St, NW in the early 1970s.  Troy is also the Godson of Herman.
More recently, I remember those phone calls from Hermina to us in NJ checking to see how we're doing.  She never forgot her friends, who meant a lot to her.  And I will always appreciate that.
When Marilyn informed me of the sad news of Hermina's passing, I immediately called Herman to offer my condolences.  During the conversation, I added a little humour by telling him, I never expected Hermina to pass before him, since he was quite a few years older than her.  He laughed, even though I knew he was grieving.
Hermina and Herman have been together for a long time, and loved each other dearly.  Hermina would find pleasure in speaking about how they met.
Memories of Hermina go back to the Chastleton Apts.  Now, all that's left are those fond memories of Hermina to cherish.
I feel gratified that I was able to visit her in the hospital and the Rehab in VA.
On behalf of my family, I offer our sincere condolences to Herman and his Family, and the Angus and Joseph Families.
May Hermina rest in eternal peace.

My condolences , this was so unexpected. When she would call me and ask how my baby and me was doingand that she has to come and see us. auntie was so thoughtful, even as growing uo she would always  come and bring different things for us . Even gave us money  Even if it was a dollar I was thankful. She alway had joy in Her voice when she spoke .she would always call me on my birthday  as of I calling  her on hers. She always made away to see if everyone is fine even when she wasn't coming around. I remember when her house got flooded and we went to help she really appreciate it. She had a smile on her face in that time of need ,but she was great full to see I came  and thank me. She was expecting me but was happy to see I came. The ime she use to come to the house just she would so I can do her nails.she would aks how much I only said $5 because she doe so much for me already.  I will miss the phone call s just checking in on me .Lynn

This is a wedding pic with Auntie Hermina (Braco Village in Trelawny, Jamaica, June 1996).   Auntie Hermina was such a beautiful soul!  Her smile, laughter and bubbly personality could light up a room.  She would always be dressed to the nines and you could always count on her being present at many of the events she was invited to.  She always made sure to ask how everyone in the family was doing including my parents and siblings.  We will miss receiving the early morning birthday calls.  Our prayers are with the entire Nobrega family for strength and peace.   Rest in heavenly peace Auntie Hermina!

Auntie Hermina, I am so saddened by your passing. You were so funny, loving, and FUN to be around. We would always dance together at family functions. My favorite song of ours was "Miss lady, where Oscar bite ya, right there, right there, right there" and when you realized I know what that meant we both laughed. Another memory I have with you is when Grandma (Sandra Williams) and I came to your house. You asked me if I was hungry, I replied yes I am. You pulled out a Chinese restaurant menu and told me i could order whatever I want. I remember you telling me that night that " It's better to come out for something, than stay home for nothing". And that statement is so true. Your Love, Laughter, and Dancing will truly be missed but I'm so grateful to have spent time with you.

Aunty Hermina will be missed by all of us whose life she touched in so many ways. As a young mother she was always supportive of me and that was Invaluable. You could count on her to come and celebrate all the Birthdays, Christenings, Weddings, etc. in-town or out of town. Whenever I was in her presence it was always laughter, dancing and good times. I have so many memories but one of the last memories was before COVID and she came to visit Mom(Sandra), she was getting ready to leave and I had just come home to cook Curry Chicken. I asked her if she was leaving or if she would stay and let the traffic die down and have dinner. She said she would stay but she would just eat a little and take the rest home for herself and Uncle Herman. Aunty Hermina and I cooked that curry chicken together and at the end I said Aunty Hermina" I didn't know you were such a good cook, better yet that you could cook". She answered me "How you mean I am a Guyanese" We laughed so hard and she went to her car and got sparkling cider out the trunk for us to celebrate. If you know, you know she had everything in her car! I will miss her and I am so Blessed to have known her. To Uncle Herman, Brian, Winston, Dexter, Roxanne ,Roger and Lexi I Pray for God to grant you all Peace, and Strength. Hold onto each other in the hard days to come.

Hermina was one of my mothers (Barbara Paul) dearest friends, but to all of the family kids, she was Auntie. She was always up for a good party and even more so for good food! Her sharp witted quips always resulted in laughter. One memory I will never forget was when family gathered to plan my wedding reception.  The menu was being discussed and after many suggestions from others, Auntie Hermina broke her silence and shouted out: Rice and Peas!  Ya GOT to have rice and peas!!!!  She crossed her hands back over her lap and resumed her silence.  Everyone erupted with laugher for a good few minutes. I'm sure the heavenly host had a plate waiting for you. Rest well.

Our sincere condolences to the entire family and friends we met Hermina in 1985 when we move here to live in Maryland and since then we always keep in touch my cousins have any party or sleep over we will have a fun she was always a fun loving person kind and always willing to help with anything . Special times at Easter with the Henry’s

Hello, my name is Sasha. I am the niece of Hermina Nobrega. Where do I start..
Well, Aunty Hermina was the Aunt/mom that made sure she looked good no matter where she went haha. I will never forget her burgundy hair, her sparkles, her love for scarfs and her perfume. She was the aunt that came on every roadtrip with us and made sure she brought thousands of bags lol. What can I say.. She definitely loved her some roadtrips. 
She would always come over my moms house and bring me and all my siblings & kids snacks,  we were always excited to see her lol one thing I can say.. she never forgot about us.
From her Pepsi, caprisons, oreos and plates of food packed after parties lol we use to love when she came over or came to support the family events. I remember when we were little and she would come over and say come make up your bed..she would literally help us make up our bed and tell us the angels don't visit us at night with a dirty room lol No matter what, She was always there in every way. I love/loved her so much for her pure heart and the love she gave us all. She always made sure that me and my kids had everything we needed from diapers, wipes, clothes and so much more. She always showed her support for everyone, and I will forever be grateful to have met a soul like her's during my lifetime. She made such an impact on all of our lives that it would be impossible, to forget her. She definitely made her mark👣 here on earth. I'm going to miss you so much my aunty🖤 until we meet again🙏🏽

Auntie Hermina, you will truly be missed by the countless people you’ve touch in your lifetime. I’ll never forget when Riley was born and you came to visit Areeba and I in the hospital. You shared so many priceless stories and gave us invaluable parenting advice. You took over that hospital room as you held Riley and even gave the doctor and nurses advice as they came in to check on us. We laughed and had such a wonderful time during your visit. You were always so generous, loving and could light up a room with your personality and smile. Thank you for always blessing my family with your kindness and love.

Our time together was special… 

I remember the last time visiting I saw you in Virgina. I was traveling through the states and I wanted to see you. Aunty welcomed me in with open arms and gave me a bottle of water. She couldn’t help but keep looking outside the window to make sure my car was okay and not getting towed. This made me laugh. I didn’t know this would be my last time I could see Aunty. Leaving Aunty at that time made me feel safe, blessed, and gifted. Thank you, Aunty for raising my mom and I when I was born. Thank you, for the continuous support of being a mother, a provider, a giver, and my Angel. The times shared before too made me feel warm and loved.  I still feel your presence and your light shining right through me. Aunty, I am now 28 years and living. Thank you, for being part of my smile. Writing this I had to suddenly take breaks; I feel sad and missing you right now is a lot. I know I shouldn’t be anxious or worried because God has you in the gates of Heaven. I know he has sheltered you and given you everlasting fruit. Continue to serve, sing, dance, and love everything that you do. We will meet again my Angel. Thank you for it all.

Where do I begin…..Mrs. Hermina was the best of the best human being I ever known. She was like a second mom to me. Dear Roxanne, Herman and Family, my family has deeply cared for  yours for  over 40 years.  Besides being a tremendous, loving babysitter for my grandchildren, “Miss  Hermina “ was a true friend.  She and I continued our phone calls after our grands grew up. She would always ask,” How is your husband…how are the grandkids?”  Christmas and other holidays were momentous ; the grands loved  her gorgeous decorations  and animated characters.  There is a special place in heaven for our “Miss Hermina.”   We, the Williamses, express your deepest condolences.

Ms. Hermina will surely be missed. She was such a kind spirit and took such great care of my children ! She would keep them in line or else that wooden spoon would be shown😊.. which she never used! I will dearly miss my aunt Hermie. The last time we spoke, we talked for over an hour. She shared so much, we laughed, we felt sorrow, it was like we picked up from prior conversations. I can still hear her voice in my head. She told me she was happy that I was close to my mom. I am very thankful for all the blessings she gave me when I was younger. She always made me feel at home at her house. Grandma would bring cloths, food, and well wishes from her. I LOVE and miss you my dear Aunt, you are truly one of a kind.

Mrs.Hermina was truly one of a kind. To know her was to love her ❤️
She immediately became a part of my family when our daughters Roxanne & Meechie became friends in 3rd grade.
She was a woman who wore many hats, one of which was my babysitter/ comedian. 
We shared many laughs together.
She didn't mind telling me in a funny but serious way if my son Kyle's clothes weren't ironed to meet her standards..lol

Ms. Hermina was such a giving soul and the sweetest lady. Her daughter, Roxanne, and I have been friends since elementary school so we have built and shared a lot of memories together. My most fondest memory of Ms. Hermina was when I had children of my own in my early 20’s, I lived out of state, and when I came home, Ms. Hermina would stock me up with diapers, wipes, whatever she could find in her stash at the house, she would give to me and would never take anything for them.  I remember her strong accent telling me, “yes, Dear, yes, you are welcome Dear” when saying ‘thank you’ repeatedly. She was the backbone of her family and showed so much love, even hard love, at times. I know she is deeply missed and will never be forgotten. Rest peacefully, now, in Heaven.

My family have so many fond memories and moments with Hermina. It has been a pleasure knowing her and her family. We were blessed in many ways , her  generosity, jokes, and words of wisdom will be sorely missed.
