Jeanna L. Ballard was born the only child of Jesse (d) and Diana Ballard (d) on May 2, 1974 in Gary, IN. Just a few years later, the Ballard family moved to Reston, VA. After high school graduation, Jeanna attended Hampton University and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Biology/Environmental Science.
Jeanna’s first professional job was with QuanTech, a statistical analysis and survey research firm. One of the highlights was her assistance with a dockside survey collecting data on Eastern Shore Crabs for the NOAA Fisheries.
At the end of that contract, Jeanna began her career with the Fairfax County Department of Transportation. She started out as an Administrative Assistant where her attention to detail, resourcefulness and awareness of the needs of others, enabled her to excel in providing remarkable support to seniors, persons with disabilities, and pedestrian safety to schools, businesses, and other organizations, through community outreaches, materials and policy development. Jeanna’s efforts were featured in The Washington Post, Reston Quarterly, NCST Today, and Moving People. Her impact helping to serve individuals in need through mobility management is a lasting legacy.
On the home front, Jeanna’s intelligence, acerbic wit, sense of humor (she particularly enjoyed aggravating her Dad), love of travel, and music were apparent at an early age.
Jeanna was a loving daughter, caring for her father, mother, and grandmother until their passing.
Jeanna married Edward (Ed) Muhoro on September 24, 2004 and they were blessed with two children, Jocelyn (d) and Chaz. Jeanna was first and foremost a loving, dedicated Wife and Mother whose children were the hub of she and Ed’s life. Jeanna, Ed and Chaz were avid travelers with trips to Paris, Kenya, (Ed’s home), California, and multiple destinations across the country. Ed and Jeanna supported Chaz, encouraging him by taking him to his sporting events and practices. She treasured watching him play soccer and basketball and seeing him grow and succeed as an athlete.
She was the “Ultimate” Soccer Mom, providing snacks for the players as well as hot drinks for players and fans alike. Ed remembers pulling the wagon loaded with all Jeanna’s “stuff” to the park. She enjoyed being involved with her Community, including the Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt and the Annual Community Halloween celebration. Jeanna enjoyed cooking for family, neighbors, co-workers and friends. AND, she was a passionate and loyal Dallas Cowboys fan.
Jeanna peacefully departed this life January 23, 2020 with her husband at her side. She leaves to cherish her memory husband Edward and son Chaz, both of Reston, VA and many relatives, neighbors, co-workers and friends.
