Murphy Funeral Homes

June Jaeger, 93, died peacefully at her home in Falls Church, VA. She grew up in her beloved Bayonne, NJ with her parents, Paul Otto and Dorothy Belford Muschalik and her younger siblings, Dan and Linda, with extended family nearby. In 1950, she married Alfred L. "Buddy" Jaeger (d.1979) and they remained in Bayonne until relocating to Falls Church in 1960. Along with her dedication to caring for a large family, June worked and volunteered. As a young girl, she assisted in her aunt’s store, and after graduating from high school and secretarial school, she worked professionally in Newark, NJ and New York City for several years. For most of her 61 years in the Pimmit Hills community, June was a leader in the Pimmit Hills Civic Association and, in the early 1960’s, she was a leader in building neighborhood support to bring sidewalks and street lights into Pimmit Hills. She was a dedicated public school advocate and PTA officer, starting when her older children were elementary school students in the fifties until the youngest had graduated from George C. Marshall High School in 1985. June took great pride in her civic work; opening her home to the public, and later at the Tysons-Pimmit public library, to register voters. She then continued working with the Fairfax County Board to tally and close the registration books with each election cycle. She enjoyed decades volunteering and working for the Navy Memorial Foundation, from which she retired in 2008. Her Navy Memorial career followed a lifetime dedicated to customer relations and service for Aetna Insurance Company, International Underwriters, and others in the travel and retail sectors. Not quite ready for retirement, in 2010 June worked as a U.S. Census-taker, canvassing the Pimmit Hills neighborhood on foot. When not working, June enjoyed life and its events; large and small. The Navy Band and all the Armed Services’ entertainment corps were her favorites. She attended scores of Penn Quarter events, Inaugural balls, receptions and affairs. Over the years, June was an active member and assisted many organizations and nonprofits including the Newseum, Smithsonian, and So Others Might Eat. June loved to visit with her friends and family, and she was frequently the last to leave a “fun” party. For more than 35 years, June was a dedicated parishioner and volunteer in St. Dominic Catholic Church in Washington, DC. She shared fellowship and friendship with clergy and parishioners alike. June will be dearly missed by those to whom she was a second “mom” and by the many more she impacted. June is survived by her sister, Linda Cecchini, Toms River, NJ; brother-in-law, Harry (Shirley) Jaeger, Richmond, VA; sister-in-law Therese Muschalik, Houston, TX; loving daughters Diane (Andrew) Pittman, Susan (John) Marshall, Cathy Daum, and Ellen (Daniel) Feer. She was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Jody and James Phillips; and her son, Paul (Grace) Jaeger. Thirteen grandchildren survive and will remember dear “G’ma June”, seven great grandchildren will miss their “GiGi”, as will Aunt June’s numerous nieces and nephews. Friends and family may call at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad St., Falls Church, VA 22046, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Sunday and Monday, July 11 and 12, 2021. Interment will follow at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042.
