Murphy Funeral Homes

God called Lily O’Brien home on April 29, 2021 after more than 103 years on earth. Lily Loezere was born on July 13, 1917 in Buffalo, New York to Lily Hayes of Bray, Ireland and Leon Joseph Loezere of Lorraine, France. She had three sisters: Joan Macourek, Sylvaine Kenyon, and Antoinette Loezere. The family resided in New York and Palm Beach, Florida and moved to France where they resided for 13 years. Lily was fluent in French and proficient in Spanish, languages gained through schooling and extensive travel by train, auto, and a yearlong hike through the Balkans. Lily relocated to New York City where she worked in the fashion industry and later joined the WACS during WWII where she was trained as an X-Ray technician. She gained employment in her field at Arlington Hospital where she met her husband of 40 years, Dr. Thomas Edward O'Brien of Winooski, Vermont. Lily was a devoted wife and mother of Elizabeth Karen Mirc, Dr. John Terence O'Brien, Robert Mark O'Brien, Thomas Kevin O'Brien, and Daniel Anthony O'Brien. She faithfully attended St. James Catholic Church and was an active member of the Falls Church Women’s Club. She also volunteered for many years at Fairfax/Inova Hospital. Upon the death of her beloved husband, she and her sister Tony traveled extensively throughout the US and the world. Lily was an avid antique collector and a multi-talented artisan who could build a patio and pond singlehandedly, hang wallpaper and fabric, tile a table, knit, rewire lamps, mow the lawn, and host elegant parties. Lily lived in her treasured home for over 65 years and passed away peacefully April 29, 2021. She is survived by a loving family of 5 children and their spouses, 6 grandchildren and their spouses, 5 great grandchildren, and a host of caregivers, nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be dearly missed, but her joie de vivre and generous spirit will live within our hearts. You can view the tribute video for Lily by following the link here. https://vimeo.com/543198241
