Margaret Maguire

She was born on December 11, 1935, in Cloonaugh, Drumlish, County Longford, Ireland. Margaret was raised on a farm, and in September 1955, at age 19, she immigrated to New York, reuniting with two of her sisters in the Bronx. She worked as a waitress at Schrafft’s near Times Square. Margaret met her husband, Patrick (Pat), an Irish immigrant from Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, in New York in 1958. They married on May 21, 1960, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in the Bronx, NY. They lived in the Bronx, where their two daughters were born, until coming to Virginia in 1963. They lived in Alexandria for 10 years, where their three sons were born, before moving to Falls Church in January 1975. Margaret was involved in many of her children’s activities, such as serving as Girl Scout cookie mom, delivering Sunday morning newspapers, and taking her children to swim and soccer practice, games and meets. She worked for a few years as a playground monitor/ cafeteria aid for St James School. She loved to work in the garden, planting flowers and trimming shrubs. In their later years, Margaret and Pat enjoyed attending family events, grandchildren’s sporting events and activities, and dinner out at Ireland's Four Provinces in Falls Church on most Saturday nights.

Margaret is survived by her children Marie, Kathleen Storer (Joel), Kevin, Tom, and John (Tracy); grandchildren Bridget and Caroline Storer, Fiona, Ava, and Keira Maguire; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by Pat, her beloved husband of 60 years, her parents Michael and Mary Anne (Cosgrove), and her siblings Lizzie McAvey, Betty Lane, Mary Mimnagh, Sonny McKeon, Kathleen McKeon, and John McKeon.

Visitation will be at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 W Broad St, Falls Church on Friday, January 30 from 4-8 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, January 31 at St. James Catholic Church, 905 Park Ave, Falls Church at 1:30pm. Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
