Mary "Rusty" Rose Keating, age 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 31, 2018. She was born on September 29, 1924 in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania. Mary is the daughter of the late Mary “Mae” Williams Kinney and William J. Kinney and predeceased by siblings Phyllis O’Connell (Mark); James Kenney (Eileen); Joan Mangan (Joseph).
Mary is survived by her sister Ellen Wallace of Wilkes-Barre PA and her children Mary Jo Marshall of Gastonia, NC; Sharon Woodall (Jay) of Cape Coral, FL, Jay Keating (Roberta) Bethesda, Maryland; Donald Keating of Redwood City, CA, Kathleen Althoff (Sam ) Vienna, VA; Trudy Grillo (Jeff) of Ashburn, VA; Judy Keating,(John Hilleary) of Smyrna, GA; Michael Keating of Arlington, VA; and Patrick Keating (Patsy) of Coconut Creek, FL. Mrs. Keating is survived by 13 grandchildren as well as six great-grandchildren.
She attended St. Mary’s High School, and Bucknell Jr. College (Wilkes University) in Wilkes-Barre, PA and Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia, PA. Mary worked as a Medical Technologist in a research lab in New York before she was married and moved to Falls Church, VA. She also worked as the Lead lab technician at the Falls Church Medical Center for eighteen years before retiring.
Mary was a devout Catholic and active member of St. James Catholic Church since 1949. She loved spending time with her family, reading, traveling, golf, doing crossword puzzles, and listening to music. Mary was also an active member of the Falls Church Women’s Club.
The family will be accepting visitors at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad St. in Falls Church, VA on Monday, November 5 from 2-4PM, and 6-8 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. James Catholic Church on Park Ave. in Falls Church, VA on Tuesday, November 6 at 1:00 PM.
Internment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Wilkes Barre, PA the following day. The family is asking in lieu of flowers donations be made to your favorite charity.
