Ralph Simon died peacefully in his sleep on October 1, 2014. He was living with his daughter in Fairfax, Virginia. He was born and raised on the Jersey Shore and earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at Yale University, completing a doctorate in Physics in 1939. He worked for the United States Army Signal Corps during and after WWII. After teaching at Penn State, he moved to Columbus, Ohio to work for Battelle Memorial Research Institute, where he remained for 25 years, retiring early to form his own consulting firm. He was an activist in the Civil Rights and Anti-war movements during the 60s and 70’s. and gifted his papers from that era to the Ohio Historical Society. He is survived by his spouse of 60 years, Maria Eugenia Peralta Simon, brother Edward Simon of Londonderry, New Hampshire, daughter Marcella Simon of Fairfax, VA, and son Robert Simon of London, England, and four grandchildren.
