Cmdr, USN (Ret.)
Died on March 16, 2016 in McLean, Virginia, of natural causes. Born July 30, 1924 in Memphis, Tennessee, he is predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Joy Lee Chandler of Fort Worth, Texas, and his parents, Welton Fisher and Anna Sue Parrish.
His twenty-year naval career began when he enlisted December 1942. After participating in the navy college training program, he was commissioned as an ensign and served on the Personnel Transport USS Mountrail in WWII Battle of Okinawa; the Seaplane Tender USS Floyds Bay; the Heavy Cruiser USS Toledo in the Korean War; then the Destroyer USS James C. Owens. For his last sea tour he was the commanding officer of the Destroyer USS McCaffery. He was later assigned to the Board of Inspection and Survey in Washington, D.C., and had many stories about his involvement in the Polaris Missile Program.
He attended Texas Christian University and graduated with an engineering degree from American University.
He held leadership positions in church and community service organizations, primarily Kiwanis and the Kena Shrine Temple in Fairfax, Virginia, where he served as Chief of the Camel Herders Unit. He also belonged to the Royal Order of Jesters where he served as its Court Director in 1992.
After retiring from the navy, he shifted to finance and stock brokerage. Beginning as a registered representative, he managed the Rosslyn office of Hirsch & Company and began his well-respected “Fisher Gram” investment letter that focused on stock options. He joined Oppenheimer & Co. in 2011, and put in a full day at the office on the Friday before his death, a dramatic statement about his sense of responsibility for his brokerage clients for the past 54 years, as well as his overall work ethic for a total of 74 years.
He is survived by his devoted cousin June McCall Williams of Memphis, Tennessee; his close friend Sushila Kaul of Vienna, Virginia; and many life-long friends who held him in high regard.
