Ruth E Thomas

Ruth Eickelberg Thomas, 82, of Falls Church, VA, died on May 21, 2023 at The Kensington memory care facility in Falls Church. The cause of death was Alzheimer’s. Ruth was born on November 29, 1940 in Fairmont, Minnesota to Elmer and Emma Eickelberg. She was married on August 5, 1962, to John H. Thomas in Jackson, Ohio. She is a graduate of Ohio State University, and taught high school home economics for several years in Ohio. In 1972, she and her family moved to the Falls Church area, and she taught a pre-school class for the city of Falls Church for 28 years. She was a 50-year member of Lewinsville Presbyterian Church where she served on the session (ruling elders) and was clerk of session for three years. She also served on the board and president of the board of the Lewinsville Retirement Residences, founded by her church. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother John E. Eickelberg of Columbus, Ohio. She is survived by her husband John of Falls Church, sons John David Thomas of Falls Church and Mark Evan Thomas (Lindsey) of Lake Oswego, Oregon, by grandchildren Dylan J. Thomas and Molly E. Thomas of Lake Oswego, OR, by sister-in-law Sue Eickelberg of Columbus OH and a niece, Janeen Daniel (Charley) of Nashville, TN. A She is also survived by first cousins Dick Hansen (Patricia), Niceville, FL, Bob Hansen (Joyce) Dunkerton, IA, and Ron Hansen (Wendy) Holts Summit, MO.

A memorial service for Ruth will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Lewinsville Presbyterian Church, 1724 Chain Bridge Rd, Mclean, VA 22101.
