OBITUARY
Sammie Dean Guy
28 February, 1938 – 24 September, 2022
IN THE CARE OF
Murphy Funeral Homes
Sammie Dean Guy was born and raised on a farm in Scottsville Kentucky. His early education years were spent in a one room school house. He went on to attend the University of Kentucky, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering. He was quite accomplished in his career, the majority of which was with the Department of the Interior. Sammie co-authored three books on contract claims and taught courses for the American Society of Engineers. He finished his career managing the Agency’s international technical assistance program. During this time he traveled the world.
He retired early and enjoyed with his wife Marie; skiing in Colorado, the beach in Florida, boating on Lake Barcroft, following thoroughbred horse racing, and cheering on the UK Wildcats.
Sammie will be remembered most for the twinkle in his eye, his loving personality and tremendous sense of humor. He never met a person he did not like, and this was reciprocated.
There will be a gathering in his honor Thursday, October 6, 2022. It will be held at Clyde’s in Mark Center in Alexandria, VA. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres begin at 5:00 PM, followed by shared memories at 6:30.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. https://www.cancer.org
