

“Tommy” was born on August 13, 1929 in Pittsburgh PA to Edward and Lillian Lukas. He graduated from Penn State University in the NROTC program and was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy in 1951. That same year, Tommy married his high school sweetheart, Carol Lee Fox. He commanded four ships and participated in the first joint NATO cruise and finally a tour in Vietnam in 1971. Tommy retired in 1974 after 27 years of service and settled with his wife in McLean VA. He was a favorite MC at many McLean community events and was honored with the “Outstanding Volunteer of the Year” award in 2004.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Carol, his five children, Scott (Cindy), Jeffrey, David, Susan (Erik Carstens) and Linda (Vincent Cox), his sister Virginia Miller, half-brothers Edward, Greg and Gary and half-sisters Linda and Karen. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018.
A celebration of his life was held on Saturday, February 18th, 2017 at the McLean American Legion Post 270, 1355 Balls Hill Road, McLean VA.
