Tom was born on September 01, 1944, to Ernest Schwarz and Harriette Brenner Schwarz in Kansas City, MO. He grew up in Kansas City and graduated in 3 years from Southwest High School. He then attended Knox college in Galesburg, Illinois. Tom married Beverly Jacks in 1965 and graduated from Northwest Missouri State College in 1967 with a degree in chemistry. He then attended North Carolina State University and earned a master's degree in entomology. He and Beverly moved to Staten Island, New York, where his background helped him get employment with the New York Port Authority regulating food products.
He then joined the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, bureau of food, in Washington D.C., and had a long, successful career there. He was divorced in 1981 but remarried to Carol Levitch in 1983. Tom is survived by his wife Carol of the home, brother Dr. Richard Schwarz of St. Joseph, MO and 5 nephews. Tom’s passions were baseball, stamp collecting and cats. He and his brother talked every Sunday and traveled often to spring training baseball.
Tom knew so much about baseball logistics, he thought he should have been a manager. He was a smart, wonderful and thoughtful man. May he rest in peace.
Contributions can be made in Tom’s honor to the American Philatelic Research Library or to the World Central Kitchen.
