Vivian L. Reeves

Vivian Laurel Reeves was born in Brigden, Ontario Canada on October 23, 1933. Her parents, Harold and Shirley Irvine raised three children. Vivian married her high school sweetheart, Edmond Reeves, June 2, 1956 and they remained devoted and smitten until Edmond’s death in 2008. They raised their two children, Geoffrey Reeves and Laurie Webster, in Boston MA and after a brief time in Colorado, Ed and Viv moved to Arlington VA in 1982. They made many dear friends and created so many happy memories wherever they went. They loved to travel together and spend summers back in Ontario with family and old friends. Vivian and Ed adored their grandchildren, Emily Webster, Jack Webster, and Cassidy Reeves. This devotion was particularly obvious in the family gatherings at the lake cottage in Ontario. Vivian prepared rainy day activities including putting on plays. Ed arranged evening bonfires with singing, story-telling, and marshmallow-roasting. Vivian was a teacher in the Falls Church school system for over 20 years, specializing in helping young children with special needs. She was very proud of her work and extremely fond of her co-workers, many of whom remained life-long friends. As life-long lovers of the outdoors, Vivian and Ed were active members of an informal bike group which connected them to good people and lovely places. Other beloved activities included playing bridge, reading books, and spending time with friends at book club. Viv also loved theatre and shared this interest with her grandchildren whenever possible. Vivian was very excited to be able to return to Canada this summer (and reclaim her dual citizenship). Her trip to Canada was a particularly bright spot in her year; she spent time with her nieces and nephews, reconnected with old friends, and laughed, and laughed, and laughed. After a brief stay at the hospital, Vivian died, peacefully of pneumonia on September 24, 2021. For such a tiny woman, Vivian’s passing leaves an outsized hole in her loved ones’ hearts.
