Yong Blaine Rapaport

Yong Blaine Rapaport, 88, of Gainesville, Virginia passed away surrounded by her family on March 2, 2026. Yong was born in Seoul, South Korea to Won Hi Kim and Nak Young Lee. After surviving the Korean War, she came to the United States to further her education. She was sponsored by Bruce and Thelma Stanley and their daughter Janet, who remained lifelong friends.

Yong worked for the United States Army for over 20 years. Her last position was working at the Pentagon for the Under Secretary of the Army. She received many accolades and awards for her hard work and dedication.

Yong, along with her cherished friend Soo Young Whittaker, co-founded the non-profit organization Washington Korean Women’s Society. Over the years Yong served many roles from secretary to president and her last position as Chairwoman of the Board of Directors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister June, her daughter Kimberly, her husband John Blaine and her husband Bertram Rapaport.

Yong is survived by her daughters: Kay Blaine-Dale (Scott) of Gainesville, Donna Dunbar (Brian) of Nashville, Tennessee, as well as her grandchildren Reece, Sarah, Robert, Emily, Heather, Aidan, Samantha, Cian, Lindsey and Ryan. She is also survived by her sisters, Kyung Eh and Mun Ja, several nieces and nephews, and many great grandchildren.

Yong was a loving and caring wife, mother and friend. Education was important, not only hers, but everyone else’s as well. She earned a degree in General Studies while working full time and raising a family. She encouraged everyone to better themselves through education. Yong loved playing the piano and took violin lessons. She loved listening to classical music and opera.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Washington Korean Women’s Society Scholarship fund or any charity of your choice.

A Graveside Service at King David Memorial Gardens will be held at 2712 Hollywood Rd, Falls Church, VA 22042, US, on March 5, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

A Reception at National Funeral Home will be held in the Rappahannock Room, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042, US, on March 5, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
