Barbara Marie Campbell, age 89, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2020, due to Corona Virus. Barbara, born in Brooklyn, was a graduate of James Madison High School, Class of ’49. She was the daughter of Steven Anderson and Marie Ernst as well as elder sister to Joan (deceased) and lifelong friend to brother-in-law, George Gallo.
Barbara began a career in graphic art and in 1950 wed Vincent F. Campbell (deceased) a WWII Veteran and career NYPD Police Officer. They raised their family in Massapequa but lived for short periods of time in AZ, PA and NJ before returning to Long Island, culminating a 61 year marriage at Greenwood Village, Manorville, N.Y.
Barbara became a strong advocate for the humane treatment of animals and fostered the rehabilitation of many. She had been featured on local News 12 as a prominent animal rights supporter. Barbara is survived by her children, Stephen (Joan), Linda and Jeffrey (Lore) and her grandchildren Ryan, Jenna and Michael. Barbara endeared herself to all who knew her, the first to recognize, celebrate and support any and all events in the lives of each and every family member or friend. A faithful wife to her husband, loving mother to her children and the “cool Aunt” to her nieces and nephews. Her passing leaves an ache in our hearts but brings joy to our memories. Our angel on earth has received her wings.
Due to the Pandemic, the family will hold a memorial service for Barbara at a future date. An announcement to family and friends will be forthcoming. Donations to the ASPCA are requested in lieu of flowers.
