Hugh D. McKinnon

McKinnon, Hugh D., 81, of Melville passed away December 24, 2024. Beloved husband of 10 years to Virginia. Devoted father of Hugh Jr., Suzanne, Scott, and Chris, also survived by their mother, Judy McKinnon. Cherished grandfather of Justina, Scott, and Kailin. Dear stepfather of Paul Moriarty (Mariette), Stephen Moriarty (Mary), and Kevin Moriarty. Treasured step-grandfather of Emily, Christopher, Jaclyn, James and Brigette. Former Vice President of Citibank, New York. 30-year owner of Tony’s, now known as Main Street Pub in Kings Park, creating longtime friendships with many of his patrons. Hugh was strong willed, respected, loving, unapologetically honest, and stubborn. He always had to be “the boss”, he liked to do things his way, when he wanted to do it, and how he wanted to do it. Hugh was very good at reading people, if he liked you, you were golden, and if he didn’t like you, you knew it. He was always good for a nice reality check, he told you like it was, never sugar coating how he felt. When Hugh was around, there were no GPS’ needed, Hugh was the GPS, he knew how to get just about anywhere. Although he would never admit it, when he did get lost, he would claim to be taking the scenic route. Hugh’s family was the light of his life, and he was unbelievably proud of his children and grandchildren. He was the epitome of a family man, enjoying any time he could spend with them. Many memories were made going on summer trips and going to games together. Hugh always looked forward to Thursday night, date night with his wife, going to Hoolihans, Applebees, Longhorns, Verona, and most especially Franks Steakhouse, where they went on their first date. He enjoyed watching sports and was a huge Giant fan and Mets Fan, and originally a Brooklyn Dodgers fan. Hugh will be forever missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. The family will receive visitors Friday, December 27th, 4-8 pm at Arthur F. White Funeral Home, Inc., 315 Conklin Street, Farmingdale. Funeral Mass Saturday, December 28th, 9:30 am at St. Kilian RC Church. Interment following at St. Charles Cemetery.
