Walter was born on February 28, 1953 in New York, NY, to his loving parents, Julia and Charles Lange. He built a life rooted in devotion to family and service.
Walter was the beloved husband of Kathleen Lange, with whom he shared 41 years of marriage, love, laughter, and unwavering partnership. He was a cherished father to his daughter Shannon (Jonathan Olsen) and an adoring grandpa to Connor Olsen, who brought him immense pride and joy. He was a loving brother to Rosemary (the late Michael Finocchio), Julie (John Castronova), Nancy Lange (Sergio Lebron), and Patricia (the late Robert Flynn). He was also a dear brother-in-law to Anthony Mancini (Jeanne), a devoted uncle to his many nieces and nephews, and a loving dog dad to Brielle.
Walter proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Navy from 1971 to 1975, followed by his enlistment in the Merchant Marines. After his service, Walter worked as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service where he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly presence.
Being an avid sports fan, Walter passionately supported the New York Mets, Giants, and Rangers. He also enjoyed supporting his daughter playing soccer and was an assistant coach for one of her teams. He loved music, especially The Rolling Stones, and enjoyed attending various outdoor concerts with his family. Walter found peace in fishing, spending many relaxing days at Jones Beach or Captree fishing piers. At home he could be found happily watching his sports and Classic Westerns on TV.
Family time was special to Walter. He treasured vacations with Kathleen and Shannon, especially trips to Ocean City, Maryland, with sometimes a stop at a casino along the way. He made it a point to take Shannon to numerous amusement parks, creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter.
