Barbara Jean O'Dell

Barbara Jean Brinn O'Dell was born in Norfolk, VA on May 12, 1942. Upon graduation of high school she moved to Washington DC to work with the FBI. She met her late husband, Jim O'Dell, in DC. He swept her off her feet with ice cream and persistence. They married on Mar 14, 1965 and galavanted throughout the US and eventually settled in WV.

Barb had many roles in her life. She was the successful innovative business owner of The Trading Post and Canyon Rim Gifts. She was also a loyal and dedicated wife, unconditionally loving mother and overzealous Grammy. Appropriately named Mama Bear, she was dedicated to her family with a firece love for her husband, 2 daughters, 2 grandchildren and her son-in-law, but only when he shared the sweet tea and fudge rounds!

Our family asked relatives and friends to describe her with one word. These are just a few: vivacious, solid, passionate, independent, confident, breathtaking, wise, adventurous, quirky, mesmerizing, strong, brave, neato mosquito, courageous, resilient, sassy and outspoken. Selfless and amazing were mentioned many times! She was a beautiful woman inside and out and if you didn't get to know her we sincerely apologize for your loss!

Barbara is survived by her daughter Kim Toney, son-in-law Ray Toney, grandson Colton Toney, granddaughter Camryn Toney who all reside in Charleston, WV, her daughter Jennifer O'Dell from Breckenridge, CO. She was known as Bobbi Jean to her sisters and brothers Sandy Delawder of PA, Jo Montague of VA, Mike Brinn of VA and Odell Bowab of NC and her lifelong best friend Linda Srednicki of SC.

A blessing in all of our lives and terribly missed. She was a WARRIOR until she took her last breath on December 12, 2020.
