Luther Will Smith, Jr., 84, of Lansing passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill. Born on July 4, 1932 at Wake Forest, WV, he was the son of the late Luther William Smith, Sr. and Isabella Miller Smith. Mr. Smith attended Grace Baptist Church. He served his country in US Army. Mr. Smith was a retired coal miner with 33 years of service. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, mowing grass, working on cars, and spending time with his family. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Sue Johnston; three brothers; and two sisters. Left to cherish many wonderful memories include his beloved and devoted wife, Norma Gatha McKnight Smith; sons: Carl Jeff Smith and Kent Allen and wife Sandra Smith; seven grand-children; 15 great grand-children; and one great-great grand-child; and two sisters: Edith Madis and Gay Bennett. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 PM Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville before travelling to the Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville, for graveside services.
