O. C. "Jack" Bickford

Born July 29, 1946 in Beckwith, he was the son of the late Robert S. Bickford and Fanny (Holly) Bickford.

Jack was a US Army Veteran and VFW member. He faithfully attended the First Presbyterian Church in Oak Hill. He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. Jack was a well-loved father, brother, and grandfather. He loved hunting and trout fishing, a passion he shared with his children and grandchildren. He loved spending time with his friends at the barn and McDonald’s “Coffee Club”.

After the Army, Jack followed his brothers to Chicago, IL where he worked for Helstrom Corp. Returning to WV, Jack worked in the coal industry where many knew him simply as “Winder”. He drove a coal truck for many years before retiring as a highwall miner tech and foreman in the surface mines.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers William Robert Bickford, Tommy Lee Bickford, Ronnie Bickford, Jim Bickford, Leo Bickford, and grandchildren Garrett Andrew Treadway and Emily Dawn Bickford.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Margaret Bickford; children Michelle Grim (TJ), Amy Adkins (Tim), Laura Allen (Jackson), Andrea Treadway (Joe), Robert S. Bickford II (Brandi), and Megan Bickford; brothers and sisters: Charles Bickford (Mary), Leonard Bickford (Anna), Frances Jones, Trudy Bickford, Louise Gillespie (David), Lisa Bess (Jerry); sister-in-law Kathy Burns (Eddie); grandchildren Jared, Travis, Hannah, Maddison, Trevor, Emma (and mother, Michelle), Owen, Israel, Briannon, and Cross; great-grandchildren Mia Lynn and Jack Dean; honorary daughter Beth Greter; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Pastor Nancy Martin officiating. Cremation will follow.

Friends may call from 12pm to 1:30pm prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
