“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
Paula was born at home on August 24, 1963 to Shirley and Ralph Canterbury, the seventh of nine children.
Paula was married to the love of her life on November 11, 1983, Luke Gilliam. They shared many wonderful years together spending time at their cabin at Hawks Nest, going to the beach, going to church activities, enjoying family cookouts.
Paula graduated from Fayetteville High School and spent the next twenty years working in Retail Management. In later years, Paula provided Home Health Care. Paula was someone who always took care of those who could not take care of themselves; whether it be a chicken, a ground hog, a cat, a dog, her nephew, her sister-in-law. She had compassion for all God’s creatures.
Paula was preceded in death by her parents, Shirley and Ralph; and two brothers: Timmy and Scotty.
Survivors include her husband, Luke; her Dad, Robert Hanshew, sisters: Anita Bess Smart (Bill) of Cary, NC, Karen Bainer (Steve), Becky Wood (Bruce), Fonda Shockey (Raymond), all of Fayetteville; Jeff Canterbury (Sandy) of Fayetteville, Vicki Widman of Grand Prix, TX and Jake Canterbury of Largo, FL; Mother-in-law: Barbara Gilliam of Beckwith; and best friend, Sharon Fink of Victor.
“Paula, you will always be in my heart” Love, Luke
