

SHIRLEY CANTERBURY HANSHEW “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” II Timothy 4:7 Shirley Canterbury Hanshew, 78, of Danese WV, went home to be with the Lord on January 7, 2015. Born on July 13, 1936 at Fayetteville, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Pauline Sharp Vass. Shirley attended Millbrook Baptist Church in Crickmer and while living in Shallotte, NC during the winter months, she attended Jennie’s Branch Baptist Church in Ocean Isle, NC. Shirley was a wonderful wife and mother; she was good to everyone. She loved spending time with her family, going for rides in the country, and going to the beach. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Canterbury; two sons, Timmy and Scotty Canterbury; a daughter, Pamela, granddaughter, Jaime Leigh Bainer; and grandson, Keith Heffernan. Those left to cherish many precious memories are her husband, Bob Hanshew of Danese; children, Jeff Canterbury (Sandy) of Fayetteville, Anita Bess-Smart (Bill) of Cary, NC, Karen Bainer (Steve), Becky Wood (Bruce), Fonda Shockey (Raymond), Paula Gilliam (Luke), all of Fayetteville, Vicki Widman of Denton, TX, Jake Canterbury of Largo, FL, Bobby Hanshew (Sue) of Virginia, Sissy Woodrum (Woody) of New York, Barbara Heffernan (Skip) of Kokomo, IN, Willie Hanshew of Lakeland, James Hanshew (Pam) of Kokomo, IN; grandchildren: Kimberly, Stevie, Greg, Heath, Cheryl, Justin, Jeffrey, Ashley, James, Tammy, Lyndsey, Michael, Johnny, John, Dana, Leah; twelve great grandchildren; brother, Calvin Sharpe; dear friend in Shallotte, NC, Mary Lamb; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be 1 PM, Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home with Pastor Mack Canterbury and Pastor Steve Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends two hours before the funeral on Saturday at the funeral home.
