

He was born on October 8, 1956 in Springville, N.Y, the son of Gerald and Joanne (Campbell) Ackley, of Lake Wales, Florida, who survive. As a young child, he moved to Salamanca, N.Y, where he graduated from Salamanca Central High School in 1974.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving three-plus years on active duty, stationed in both White Sands, New Mexico, and South Korea. After his honorable discharge, he earned a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo and a master’s degree from the University of Buffalo. He spent his career as an adult vocational rehabilitation counselor for New York State. He also spent a number of years as an instructor at Jamestown Community College.
He was an enthusiast and supporter of live music – having been a drummer in several bands in his youth -- and enjoyed the outdoors as a hunter and fisherman, especially on the family farm in Gowanda, N.Y. He lived most of his adult life in Little Valley, N.Y, where he was very active and an officer for the American Legion there, He was also a member of the Little Valley VFW. He and his wife relocated to Palm Coast in 2016.
Additional survivors include his wife Linda (Hileman), his two sons, Evan (Kelly) of Palm Coast and Aaron (Maria), of Fayetteville, N.C., a brother Brian (Lori) of Fort Meade, Florida , a grandson Beau of Fayetteville, and sisters-in-law Nancy (Dan) Hileman of Westmoreland City, Pennsylvania, and Judy (Chuck) Spiegel of Naples, Florida.
A memorial service at a later time will be scheduled and held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations are suggested to a local animal organization of the giver’s choosing or the World Central Kitchen at www.wck.org (link below).
