I remember Uncle Barney as a tough, not making it easy uncle and that was welcomed.  I always appreciated him even when it wasn’t in line with what my grandma wanted as I was very loyal to Grandma Beverly.  I also recall him being handy and encouraging dismantling and rebuilding of toys but also smoking a pipe back in the New Jersey days.  I loved the smell ;)

What a blessing to celebrate 90 years!!  Love & miss you Dad ❤️❤️

So sorry for your loss. One thing I'll always remember is how proud he was of Alyssa at her Bat Mitzvah (weren't we all) and her wedding. And at every social event, be it big celebrations like those, or the hundreds of dinners at Randy's, she hosted, he was always the consummate gentleman. Always social, always acting the host, even when he wasn't lol - he greeted everyone old school. And what a sharp dresser - till the very end after 90, still that Cary Grant style. All those things he passed down to Randy - she is always the perfect hostess. And I see his grit in Alyssa! We are have many qualities, some wonderful, some not so wonderful. Alyssa & Randy mirror the very best of Barney. And for that you can always be grateful. But it is Barney who was the lucky one. Randy & Jim took better care of him than Queen Elizabeth's staff provided to her lol !! That generation isn't so great saying the words Thank You much, but you could see it in his eyes during the quiet moments. I'd see him looking quietly into the kitchen as Randy cooked, and I could tell he was proud of her. I will miss seeing him at Randy and Jim's. He sure did bring the pizzazz!!!!


I will remember Barney and our conversations over Thanksgivings, where he would share the stories of his numerous international travels. He gifted our family his well kept tool chest which has been of great aid in maintaining our home. For a man who spent his life working with his hands, it should be fitting that I will remember him each time I grab a hammer or pull a wrench.

Most of the time that my family visited in  Paramus,  my Uncle Barney met us at some location a mile or so from their house, depending upon exactly where we got lost, so we could follow him to their house.

I recall taking walks with my Uncle Barney after dinner at 
Barney and  Sondra's house.  

My Uncle Barney will always be remembered and missed.

My Uncle Barney was kind and generous with his time.  He was somewhat of a mentor to me regarding the skills that he had acquired. 
He could build or fix most anything.
Since I was realistic, I had no expectation of learning how to construct the metal  decorative table in Lisa and Anthony's dining room that fits perfectly in a corner behind the dining table.  But in my childhood, he did  help me assemble some model toys.   Later as a teenager, he helped me do a complete tune-up on my first car.  Michael

Randy became a life long friend and when I visited their home in Paramus, NJ I remember Barnie’s  kindness and sense of humour. I am saddened by your passing, Mr. Cogan. You shared with me  a lifetime of wonderful memories. I remember the cookouts at your home in New Jersey. We all had great winter weekends in the Catskills. The road trips to Florida when I was a teenager are fond recollections.

More recently, I remember shooting pool at your house and having cookies and coffee. My boys still talk about watching you fly your radio controlled planes. You touched many lives with your kindness!

Mr. Cogan was a very fortunate man to have a daughter and son in law as devoted as Randy and Jim Moffitt.  Never was any request denied and all requests were honored with patience and respect.

   My heart aches for his family for their loss.  I’m wishing them peace and comfort and send lots of love.

My favorite memory of Grandpa Barney was in 2006 when he attended my college graduation dinner in Orlando. I could have picked ANYWHERE to eat, but I picked a Hamburger Mary’s drag show. Barney and Sondra were chosen to participate in the Newlywed game. The Queen hosting the event asked some wild questions. Barney stole the show! That Barney was one of a kind. 
I have peace in knowing what excellent care my mom and dad provided him in his last years. 

A memory Mr Cogan always recalled when I visited with him was the time Randy brought me antiquing with him and Mrs Cogan. Mr Cogan inspected the craftsmanship of the lamp I wanted, and only after he gave his approval, was I able to make the purchase. It’s a fond memory for sure. 

My sincere condolences to Mr Cogan’s friends and family. My love to Randy, Jim and Alyssa.

Barney was an amazing Uncle to me and my brothers.  He loved to share tools and always had time to walk and talk with us when we visited.  I still enjoy using the various screwdrivers and vises that he gave me.  It always makes me smile when I do.
     The years I spent at Georgetown allowed me to get to know Barney more as one man to another.  He was always a strongly opinionated guy, and he gave it to me straight.  It was clear that all his advice came my way with love and a true desire to make a guiding mark in my life.
      My Uncle Barney was a good man, that I admired and treasured.  He made my life better and I will miss him with all my heart.  My sincerest condolences to his friends and his two beautiful daughters, my cousins Lisa and Randy.
