May 25, 1942 – October 16, 2025
With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Elizabeth ("Betty") Jane Brogan Lake, a woman whose faith, warmth, and Irish cheer touched every life she encountered.
Born on May 25, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Margaret and Albert Brogan, Sr., Betty was the eldest of four spirited sisters. She grew up in Secane, Pennsylvania, where she attended Ridley Township High School, graduating in 1960. Betty was a bright student and a natural performer who loved acting in school plays, but her greatest joy came from the energy of the playing field and the sidelines, where she shined as both an athlete and a cheerleader.
After high school, Betty pursued her passion for teaching, graduating with honors from West Chester University with a degree in elementary education. She dedicated her early years to shaping young minds as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher, work that reflected her kind heart, patience, and love for children.
On June 20, 1964, Betty married the love of her life, Boyd David (“Dave”) Lake, Sr., and together they began a beautiful journey in Richmond, Virginia. There, they welcomed their two greatest blessings, Becky and Boyd, who became the lights of her world. Betty devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family, nurturing her children with endless love, laughter, and encouragement as the family moved and grew over the next twenty years.
As her family blossomed, Betty's heart grew even fuller with the arrival of her beloved grandchildren Connor, Brogan, Ryan, Meghan, and Jackson. Nothing brought her more joy than being their “Gram.” She celebrated every milestone, game, and accomplishment with boundless pride, cheering them on with the same spirit that once led her high school squad. Her laughter filled every gathering, and her hugs could make any day brighter. Her grandchildren were, without question, the treasures of her heart.
Betty's deep faith guided every step of her life. She faced each day with gratitude, grace, and humor, never losing sight of her blessings. Her proud Irish heritage was woven into her spirit. She loved a good laugh, a warm conversation, and the joy of being surrounded by loved ones.
Those who knew Betty will forever remember her twinkling eyes, her ready smile, and the way she made everyone feel like family. Her legacy of kindness, faith, and love lives on in all who were lucky enough to know her.
Betty is lovingly survived by her devoted husband, Dave, her cherished children Becky and Boyd, and her beloved daughter-in-law Kathy, who was like a daughter to her. She is also survived by her adored grandchildren Connor, Brogan, Ryan, Meghan, and Jackson. Each of whom brought immeasurable joy and pride to her life. Additionally, Betty is survived by her three beloved sisters Kathie Gargiulo, Janet Nacrelli, and Margie Jones with whom she shared a lifelong bond of laughter, faith, and sisterly love. Their time together in her final days was filled with stories, smiles, and the deep affection that defined their lives.
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
