Gordon David Ashby, 87, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away on January 18, 2025, at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House. He was born on April 10, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Fitz and Carmen Ashby.
Gordon proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany during peacetime. He went on to attend Brooklyn College, furthering his education and pursuing his passion for service.
While vacationing in Barbados, Gordon met the love of his life, Elsie Ilene Batson. Serendipitously, they discovered they both lived near each other in New York, and they married on June 9, 1970. Together, they raised two daughters on Long Island, New York, where Gordon worked for over 40 years as an administrator with the Veterans Administration.
In 2006, after his retirement, Gordon and Elsie moved to sunny Palm Coast, Florida, where they enjoyed walking on the beach. Gordon was deeply involved in the Brethren Assembly, and his faith played an important role in his life. He also had a passion for travel, loved reading the newspaper, enjoyed studying maps, taking photos, and was known for his curiosity and love of tinkering.
Gordon is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Elsie Ilene Ashby; daughters, Sonia Bernard and Lynette Ashby; son-in-law, Rev. Brian Bernard; grandchildren, Terrence and Rebekah Bernard; and many extended family members, friends, and members of the Christian Community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
