Jose Olveira, 89, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away on March 16, 2025, at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House. He was born on January 23, 1936, to the late Jose and Encarnacion Olveira (Guillan) in Palmeira, La Coruna, Spain.
In 1961, Jose was a Seaman aboard a merchant ship that made a stop in New York, where he had planned to visit friends. However, he chose to stay in the United States and never returned to the ship. That same year, he met the love of his life, Teresa Gonzalez Alvarez and married on April 26, 1962. Together, they spent almost 35 years in New Jersey, initially in Harrison and then Cranford. Jose was a dedicated member of the Teamsters Local Union #472 for over 50 years. He worked in heavy construction, specializing in roads and bridges, and retired as a Foreman.
Jose was also an active member of the Spanish American Club of Newark, where he and Teresa shared many joyful times attending dances, sporting events, and dinners. Known for his hard work and determination, Jose earned the nickname of “Mr. No Problem" because he was the handiest man around and was always willing to help fix whatever needed fixing. There was nothing he couldn't repair.
In 1996, he and Teresa moved to Palm Coast, Florida. They became members of the Hispanic American Club of Palm Coast and continued to enjoy the retired life. Jose also enjoyed boating in the warm Florida waters, a passion he cherished.
Jose is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Teresa Olveira; his sister, Maria Dolores Olveira; his nephews, Jose Vicente Millan and Fernando Millan; his niece, Maria Del Carmen Olveira and her four children; and many other loving relatives and friends in both the United States and Spain.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Children's Hospital. He will be laid to rest on Monday, March 24, 2025, 2:00PM at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, 1098 Woodbridge Center Drive, Woodbridge, New Jersey 07095.
