I went to college and lived in Jacksonville, FL right after I graduated from high school. I went home for many weekend visits and I remember Leo bringing home Kentucky fried chicken for his dinner.  He loved KFC.  I want to thank all of you on behalf of the Slovak family for all the loving memorable messages you wrote.   Leo, may you rest in peace.   Love, your sister Barbara.


Uncle Leo had the amazing and endearing gift of being able to remember every family member's first name, middle name and birth date.  He would enthusiastically recite them when asked to with his characteristically sweet smile.  That's a truly impressive feat given the size of our family!  

When I think of Uncle Leo what I will always remember are his beautiful eyes, his kind and gentle manner and the soft way he spoke to me.  He was a genuinely good and kind soul and I am truly grateful for having known and loved him.

My sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Leo Slovak. 

Although we live about a mile apart from each other, the Slovaks were my dearest friends in the early years of my life.

Since we all grew up as children in Korona, FL, I will always remember Leo and his brothers and sisters as my closest childhood friends. 

Even today, I still remember the marvelous days and evenings we spent playing back yard games (without TV, Internet, Cell Phones, etc.) and many times simply looking up at night at the stars.  

Looking back on my own life, I now realize that those times were among the most wonderful and influential days of my whole life. 

With heartfelt and warmest sympathy, I will always be grateful for having known Leo and his siblings when I was growing up Korona. I will always remember him with kindness.

What I remember most about my uncle is how he used to love listening to music. His favorites were John Denver and, I believe, the Osmonds. Was it the Osmonds? I'm not one hundred percent sure. But I remember his records and how he used to play them for my brother and me. I always missed those days on the farm, listening to John Denver with Leo.

I was reminiscing about that just last week with my parents as we went through a box of old photos that John and Jean had sent from Florida. There were a couple photos of Leo posing with my brother, Paul, when Leo was, maybe, 22 or 23, and Paul was a baby. Jacqueline, my daughter and Leo's great niece, looked at the pictures and said, "Wow. He's really handsome." And so he was. I remember that, too. He was a beautiful person, inside and out, a man with a big heart and a gentle soul.

I always enjoyed going to Howard Johnson's for coffee with Leo and staying with him when I visited the farm, in his house across the driveway. Leo would cook. He made steak dinners for me. He would call, "Paul, dinner's ready."
Rest in peace, Leo, beloved brother. Until we meet again.
