A proud graduate of Westminster High School, Class of 1961, Paul was the first member of the Virtz family to graduate from high school. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he honorably served four years of active duty followed by two years in the reserves.

Throughout his life, Paul was known for his entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic. He worked for Black & Decker and later Caterpillar before becoming a successful business owner. He operated three businesses in Pennsylvania: Paul's Auto Sales, Battlefield Auto Auction, and Grandview Motors. In 2001, Paul and Sue relocated to Palm Coast, Florida, where he founded and ran Paul Virtz Lawn Mowing for several years.
