Vinnie was born on January 21, 1935, in Sicily, Italy, to the late John and Concetta Poidomani. At the age of 14, she and her family emigrated to the United States, settling in the Bronx, New York. Embracing her new life, Vinnie learned English and became the first in her family to graduate high school. She continued her education at night school, mastering a specialized form of shorthand called Steno pitman which was very difficult.
Her future husband, Mario Bonanno, who lived on the same street, once told his family he would marry her — a promise he fulfilled on December 8, 1956. Together, they raised four children: three sons and one daughter. While primarily a devoted homemaker, Vinnie also worked part-time as a telemarketer with SEARS, always ensuring she was home when her children returned from school.
In 1989, when Mario became ill, the family relocated to Palm Coast, Florida. Her son, Frank passed away in November of 1993, followed by her husband Mario in February 1994.
Vinnie was renowned for her Italian cooking, especially her homemade lasagna, pasta, and pastries—all crafted from scratch. She sewed her own clothes, created Christmas ornaments, and enjoyed shopping, bowling, and daily walks. She was known for her impeccable appearance, never seen with a hair out of place.
Above all, Vinnie’s greatest joy was her family, particularly her cherished grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Mario and son Frank, she was preceded in death by her siblings Josephine Landolf and Joseph Poidomani.
She is survived by her children John (Maureen) Bonanno, David (Barbara) Bonanno, and Michele (Ken) Schaffner; grandchildren Caitlin, Christopher, David Jr., Briana, Stephen, and Joseph; sisters Maria Acerbo, Elvira Antonelli, and Carmela Grasso; as well as many loving relatives and wonderful friends through work which lasted throughout the years and they became part of her life.
Donations may be made in Vinnie’s memory to The Gentiva Hospice Foundation.
