ACCARDO, Joseph, Age 84, went home to be with the Lord September 18, 2010. Visitation Tuesday 7-9 PM and Wednesday 12-4 and 6-9 PM at Reigle Funeral Home, Flushing. In State Thursday 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 11110 N. Saginaw in Mt. Morris until Funeral Mass at 11 AM. Burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Joe was born October 23, 1925 in Saginaw to Leonard and Mary (Marino) Accardo. His family moved to Flint when he was nine years old, at that time he knew he would marry the girl next door, Julie Jaworski. This past June they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Joe attended Flint Northern High School, left to join the Air Force, later getting his diploma. He served in WWII and The Korean War. He graduated from Valparaiso Technical College in radio communications, then from GMI in machinery repair. In 1987, he retired from Flint Metal Fab, with 38 years of service to GM. Joe enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, playing cards, singing, visiting with friends and family and attending church. He was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Mt. Morris, V.F.W. Post #5666, P.L.A.V #8, Krapohl Senior Center, Polish American Retired Association and USBC. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Penny, Sarah, Matt and Maple Manor who helped maintain Joe’s dignity; to his golf and bowling leagues (you know who you are), in spite of everything, still wanted him part of the team. Those who wish may contribute to a foundation to be set up by the family, that a person suffering from dementia may have someone with them during their hospital stays.) Joe is survived by his adoring wife, Julie; Children, Judiann (Steve) Boone, Kris (the late Deborah), Koreen, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; Brother, Angelo; Sister, Katherine, a niece, nephew, grandnephew, many cousins and friends.
