Mary Lou Hammerberg, 94, of Flushing, MI, passed away Sunday - April 18, 2021. Mary Lou was born on June 23, 1926 in Creekside, Pennsylvania the only child born to Richard and Mildred Sloan. The family moved to Detroit and Mary Lou graduated from Detroit Northern High School in 1944. She married J. Harold Hammerberg upon his return from U.S. Navy service in WW II, on November 10, 1945. Five children were born of their union and they raised their family in Flint. Mary Lou was known to "have a beer, play cards, bowl and was a voracious reader", her family said. She lived her life to spend time with her friends and family.
Mrs. Hammerberg is survived by her daughters, Betty Jo (Ken) Parker, Barbara Boyer, Nancy (Dennis) Hill; son, Ken Hammerberg; daughter-in-law, Lynn Hammerberg; nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and all those Mary Lou considered family, also survive.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Lou was pre-deceased by her son, Wayne.
Due to the current Covid pandemic conditions, only committal prayers and services will take place at Flint Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021.
