Robert D. Lane, formerly of Vassar, age 78, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Barton Woods Assisted Living in Freeland. He was born on September 5, 1938 in Flint to Leo and Wanita (Dixon) Lane.
He graduated from Hoover High School in Flint in 1956. He married Sybil Framke on February 15, 1958 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bay City.
Robert worked for Saginaw Steering Gear as a Metallurgical Lab Technician. He spent his retirement years traveling with his wife and the “Six Pack” of friends. He was an avid outdoorsman. He spent many years hunting and fishing with his family. He strived to leave wherever he was better than it was when he got there. He also enjoyed woodworking, photographing the world around him, and spending time with his family or anyone who would listen to his many stories about his adventures.
He is survived by his mother, Wanita (Dixon) Lane of Flint and mother-in-law Margaret (Bublitz) Framke; his children: Bob and Janet Lane of Beaverton, Chris and Cindy Lane of Vassar, and Lori (Lane) and Jeff Murphy of Midland; his grandchildren: Matthew Lane, Amy Lane, Ryan Lane, Ashley (Lane) Norman, Evan Lane, Quentin Lane, Katelyn Murphy, Brandon Murphy, Elizabeth Budzinski, Shaina Derstine, Heather Derstine, Brandon Derstine and great-grandson Davin Kowitz. He is also survived by his siblings: Donna (Lane) Hill, Jim and Diana Lane, Loran and Linda Lane, Allen and Sue Lane, and Ellen Kay (Lane) and John Cooper as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sybil (Framke) Lane, and his father Leo Lane.
A memorial service celebrating Robert’s life will be held at noon on May 6, 2017, at Reigle Funeral Home, 5501 W. Pierson Road, Flushing, Michigan. Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of the service.
