Beloved Son, Brother, Uncle, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather Ronald William Helmstadt passed away peacefully with family at his side on March 10th, 2024 at Covenant Glen in Frankenmuth, Michigan. A graveside service will take place on Friday, March 15, 2024 at 10am at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. Ronald William Helmstadt was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 23rd, 1932 to Augusta (Niederbühl) Helmstadt and John Helmstadt. Ronald graduated from Lindenhurst High School (Lindenhurst, NY) in 1950 and worked as a land surveyor before serving in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 with the 443rd Troop Carrier Wing at Donaldson AFB in Greenville, South Carolina. After his Honorable Discharge, Ron attended the Indiana Technical College in Ft. Wayne, Indiana graduating with a BS in Civil Engineering in 1957. Ron returned to New York and married the love of his life (Mary Josephine Stampfel) on October 3rd, 1959. Ron and Mary suffered the loss of their first child (Mary Lynn) in 1962. Ron was a licensed Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor in numerous states on the east coast. He worked for Levitt and Sons in NY before moving to Maryland in the early 70’s where he held several Civil Engineering positions before he started his own Civil Engineering and Land Surveying business on Maryland’s Eastern Shore in 1977. Mary worked in the family business with Ron until they sold the business and retired in Florida in the early 90’s where he and Mary were active with the Methodist Church and volunteered at a local school library. Ron loved to work on home improvement projects and he enjoyed fishing and boating and oil painting (landscapes). Ron and Mary were loving parents and devoted to each other and their family. Ron was predeceased by his parents and his sister Colleen. Ron and Mary were together for 60 years before Mary passed away in 2019. Ron is survived by his son Ronald John (Sandra) Helmstadt of Bridgeport, Michigan and daughter Kathy Ann Helmstadt of Smyrna, Delaware. He is also survived by grandchildren Kevin (Kristy) Hertz, Kyle Hertz, Kay Hauer, Marie (Robert J) Helmstadt, Louis (Leslie H.) Helmstadt, and Caroline (Julien)Clolinger; great grandchildren Konnor, Landon and Stella; nephew Fred Pelligrino; special cousin Janet Heppenheimer; and two dearest friends Arlene Riviera and Beth Ottesen. Special thanks to ALL the staff at Covenant Glen in Frankenmuth for the loving care given to Ron for the past 5 years with special thanks to long time caregivers Eli and Summer.
