I met you on the occasion of a great pain that struck you, the death of your dear Louis Junior, whom you have now reached in heaven.
We had an intense correspondence which culminated with the meeting with your April in Sorrento.
While both are in-laws of the Gallo family, we have tried to strengthen this belonging-

Bette was the first person Steve & I met when as newly married we moved into our first home 2 doors down! We will alway be grateful for our special friendship over the years . And, we will always remember her zest for life,  adventuresome spirit, harmonica playing ,constant smile and optimism! We loved being with her as we never knew what would happen next... be it a gift of wild mushrooms or a breakout in song!

My beautiful friend Betty 💕 I just know with sadness that she passed. We know her & Lou  since we moved to Douglaston. She & Lou always greeting you while you pass by wonderful neighbors. She always spoiled my boy. She will be really missed for all of us. Her free spirit and smile will be always in our memories and hearts. So long Betty.💕 The Lecomples

I first met Bette only 5 years ago. Our unlikely friendship started with her kindness to my grandmother, Nina (Rita), to whom Bette showed honor and respect and kindness to the end of Nina's days. I so admired Bette's spirit and strength. Whether walking through the landing or out kayaking, she was one of the most determined people I think I've ever met. I will miss meeting up for brunch in New York City on days when the wind was calm and she could walk from the train station to the LES without the wind "trying to blow her over". I will miss her love of music and hearing her stories of old New York and the nuns in the orphanage and of course her love story of "sheets and towels". I will miss playing ping pong, though I have to say she was a sore loser when it came to the game of paddles. And I will miss watching the sun set across the lake from her beautiful home. I feel honored to have called her a friend and neighbor on the mountain. It seemed to me that she lived life unapologetically with a bluntness and sense of self that will always inspire me. She will be missed but never forgotten. 

What a loss for all who knew her! Such an interesting and fun character. I always enjoyed her stories and distinctive sense of style. Please accept my sincere condolences.

We met Lou first. He was a favorite tennis opponent of our Dad, Bill Lancaster. At the time, Bette and Lou stayed at the Brown’s house on the water. After they built their home, Bette became our water’s edge neighbor and friend. She was always a delight to be with! We discussed what we were reading, shared family updates, and heard many of Bette's great stories, especially about her childhood. She had us up for ping pong and “nibbles”. 
Bette was never without laughter and smiles! And what an elegant dresser! To her last years we would share joy at the water with her, nestled in her favorite spot, reading her books and invariably taking her ride in her kayak and with her conical sun cap. At peace.

We love you, Bette and will miss you! Your spot on the Landing will always be yours and we will always cherish our memories of you!

We will always remember “ ringing in the  year 2000 “on New Years Eve in Whitehall with  Betty and Lou♥️🥂We had a blast dancing on a deck on the Canal and my diamond bracelet flew off my wrist- the Gallos to the rescue! We recovered it together( hanging off a deck pole) and celebrated bigtime together! We loved them both and were blessed to have such interesting fun people in our lives. They will always be a part of Huletts Landing. Our deep  condolences, Jane and Rick Carter

The fond memories of Bette will echo in Huletts Landing for years to come.  She was a true earth sparkler who loved life, lived it to the fullest, and on her terms!  As her and her dear husband Lou's neighbors on the hillside for 12 years, we enjoyed her lively spirit, and she was the entertainment at many of our social gatherings!  What great times we had together!  Bette will ALWAYS be remembered with a smile.  We love you Bette!

From tea parties down at the stone house to ping pong tournaments- Bette always knew how to bring the fun and we are so incredibly grateful for all the times we spent in her company , enjoying a laugh, a song, or a story! 

May you rest in peace my beautiful 2nd Mother of 40 plus years.  Heaven has just gained another Angel. Forever in our Hearts!

Betty could never be portrayed in a few words. But if I had to pick a few, they would be... fun, interesting, educated, raconteur, loving, and loved. It was my great privilege to know her. I have no doubt she is loved by those she has joined in Heaven just as she was loved by us on Earth.
